BOWMAN STAYS WITH DETROIT |

CALGARY, CAN -- Detroit Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman decided to coach another year on June 25, 2000, but this year he needed a little more time to decide to coach for at least one more season unlike last year where he had no hesitation.
"I wanted to know what changes the Red Wings were going to make and if I fit in with those changes," Bowman said. "When I found out I did and my doctors said I was good to go another season, I knew Id be back because this was the earliest I was out of the playoffs in the seven years Ive been in Detroit. It felt like the job was unfinished."
Bowman says his No. 1 goal after being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by Colorado each of the past two years is to tighten up defensively.
Detroit had a 48-24-10 record in the regular season, but the 210 goals they allowed ranked tied for 10th in the NHL. Usually the Red Wings are first or second in that department.
"Having Scott back is great for the game," says Blues coach Joel Quenneville. "For me, its a challenge every time I have to face him."
